*** On June 28th, our User Experience Director, Steve Tengler, presented a webinar entitled “User Experience vs. User Interface”. This post features a question asked by an attendee.
QUESTION: How do address the different cultural norms in U.I/U.X. when designing for a global rollout?
STEVE: This is a tough one since it depends upon the volume of your product in each region and the expected margin. I’ve been with companies that try a one-size-fits-all approach and in-house translation of a market-specific design, and that led to mediocre global experiences. The best solution seemed to be:
- Create your UX in a flexible tool that allows easy manipulation for languages (or icons)
- Project your volumes in each target market and decide which ones warrant testing within market.
- Adapt your model for the larger markets, and simply translate for the smaller markets.
