aspiceAltia announced today that the HMI development software and services company has achieved Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) Organizational Maturity Level 1.

The Automotive SPICE initiative, derived from ISO 15504 International Standard for software process assessments, includes car manufacturers such as AUDI AG, BMW Group, DaimlerChrysler AG, Fiat Auto S.p.A., Ford Werke GmbH, Jaguar, Land Rover, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Volkswagen AG and Volvo Car Corporation. ASPICE has developed a common framework for the assessment of suppliers in the automotive industry through the publication of the Automotive SPICE Process Assessment Model and Process Reference Model. The scope of certification includes the design, development, conversion/porting, maintenance and testing of software systems in the automotive domain.

“Completing ASPICE Level 1 is a tremendous achievement for our company. Level 1 is the foundation for building a world-class software delivery organization and helps us to develop high quality software in a predictable and efficient manner,” states Michael Hill, Altia Vice President of Engineering. “Our engineering and quality teams are continuing their efforts to reach the next levels of certification, with the target of achieving Level 3 in the 2017 calendar year.”

Altia’s HMI development tool chain includes unique features that provide Altia with a strong path to further certification. For example, Altia generates 100% native C code compiled with chip-specific tool chains – with no dependency on generic, non-native engines. Additionally, the Altia Layer Manager allows for the separation of safety-critical and infotainment code by leveraging the hardware separation and virtualization offered by the hardware.

“As the connected car and autonomous driving emerge as critical technologies for future vehicles, quality and security have become more important than ever before – particularly in the HMI, where life-critical information lives,” said Jason Williamson, Altia Vice President of Marketing. “Altia is proud to receive this important industry validation which reflects our worldwide commitment to developing and deploying industry-leading software and engineering services for our customers and their drivers.”

In addition to ASPICE compliance efforts, Altia’s engineering and services teams are engaged in other ongoing quality initiatives. Altia’s MISRA C Compliance Initiative, for example, confirms that since 2015, Altia new code that has been developed and verified by Altia to MISRA 2012 compliance. Legacy code compliance to MISRA C is ongoing.
