The new Classing feature gives you the power to apply changes to multiple objects simultaneously, regardless of the types of changes or the locations of the objects. Think of Classing like using the “master slide” in Microsoft Powerpoint: if you want to apply a logo to all the slides, make the change to the master slide and that change is propagated throughout the presentation.
Classing has two incredibly powerful applications. One, save hours of tedium by changing one base class object (the “parent”) and applying those changes to all (“children”) instances. Two, allow designers to work in parallel on the same project and combine their handy work at the end – no need to pass design files back and forth. Give screen A to Joe, screen B to Tina, and screen C to Aaron. Consolidate them all into the final project with the Classing feature.
Let me show you a quick example of how Classing works in Altia Design 10.

Altia’s DeepScreen code generator saves you MONTHS of development time by automatically generating graphics code for your production hardware platform – so the pixels from your artist end up in production!

Think of it as your new design roadmap on steroids. With the release of Altia Design 10 (coming August 16th) the new Navigator allows you to negotiate the most complex of Design projects. In previous versions, the browser was where you could search and find the many objects in your design. The new intuitive Navigator replaces the browser: discover objects and be productive in less time.
You can search and filter, as well as instantly focus deep into complex groups. No need to select a group, focus in, select the inner group, focus in again… lather, rinse repeat. Easily rename and keep your dozens (or hundreds, even thousands) of objects neat and tidy.
We’ve also made Animations, Stimulus, and Control easier to handle. The Navigator window shows what objects have any of these defined behaviors. One click and you can be in the Animations editor. Also, quick access to each objects Properties too.
By adding the ability to drag-and-drop objects throughout the Navigator, complex objects like Decks are approximately…10x easier to use. Give or take a few ‘x’. Moving objects between cards was error-prone and tedious before. Now, drag the object from one card to another. And you’re done. Create a new card simply by dragging objects or groups right onto the deck object. Re-numbering of cards is handled for you.
Let’s look at a few examples within Altia Design 10. Part one: using the Navigator to explore your projects.

I was recently reminded of a time sitting in Calculus class years ago, a time when after spending long frustrating amounts of time per problem to find the derivative of an equation as “the limit of f of a plus h plus blah blah over h“, we were told the quick and easy way to do it later on in the course. It frustrated me that I didn’t know the easy method sooner, but excited me that this new, easier way was possible. This was very similar to when I discovered any of life’s other little shortcuts, such as short division that I learned in grade school, or doing arithmetic left-to-right to save time.

In accordance with Altia’s product evaluation system, each product explored may receive a possible 100 points based upon five performance categories relating to configuration of the user interface, overall presentation of display (color, legibility, etc.), design of icons, management of human errors, and attractiveness of the display design.

Continuing our series on Altia Design 10, here are a couple more finite features to boost performance and flexibility of your production hardware.
FreeType Fonts
Using the new FreeType Font engine in Altia Design, you can now see better-looking fonts both in the editor and on the final target.
External Image Processing
For improved embedded performance, Altia Design 10 now provides you with the flexibility to optimize image formats for loads times or memory usage based on the hardware target. For non-vector content, you can change variables – like size, load speed, or color depth – to optimize performance. Get even better performance on less-expensive hardware with Altia Design 10!
