Question How do you provide a system identification number for requesting code words?

Idea If you did not receive code words with a product purchase, please contact your Altia software representative and provide the identification number for the computer system that will execute the purchased products.

On PC Windows, the identification number is the computer’s LAN ID if the computer has a LAN card. If the Altia software is already installed, you can execute the lmtools.exe program in the flexlm folder (for example, c:\usr\altia\flexlm\lmtools.exe if Altia Design is installed in c:\usr\altia), choose the System Settings tab and provide the information that appears in the Ethernet Address field. Be sure to capture all information including leading zeros (0) and multiple addresses if shown. If you provide a LAN ID number to Altia, please indicate that it is a “Windows LAN ID number.” If the system is running Windows Vista, please also indicate this. Only FLEXlm licenses (not Altia’s legacy licensing system) work on Windows Vista with a LAN ID as the identification number.

Another approach for getting the identification number on PC Windows XP/Vista is to open the Start menu, choose All Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, and finally System Information. In the System Information window, expand the Components folder, then the Network folder, and finally the Adapter folder. The LAN ID is the value displayed for the MAC Address of the LAN Card Adapter. Be sure to pick the MAC address for the actual LAN Card Adapter as there can be many other types of Adapters also showing. The Name for the adapter contains the name of the device manufacturer and the Adapter Type is usually Ethernet 802.3. If there are multiple LAN Card Adapters, please collect the information for all of them.

On PC Windows computers without a LAN card, the identification number can also be the c: drive volume serial number (also referred to as the disk id number). Use the vol c: command in an MS-DOS Command Prompt window to determine the number. If you provide this number to Altia, please explicitly indicate that it is a “Windows c: drive volume serial number.”

On Linux systems, the identification number is the HWaddr value displayed for eth0 by the /sbin/ifconfig command. If you provide this number to Altia, please explicitly indicate that it is a “Linux eth0 HWaddr value.”

On SUN and SGI systems, the identification number is displayed by the hostid command. If you provide this number to Altia, please explicitly indicate that it is a “SUN hostid number” or “SGI hostid number.”

On Hewlett-Packard HP-UX systems, the number displayed by the uname -i command is the system identification number. If you provide this number to Altia, please explicitly indicate that it is a “Hewlett-Packard uname number.”
