Altia is proud to be a new member of the GENIVI Alliance, a non-profit alliance and global development community of over 140 companies, which joins automotive software stakeholders with world-class developers to deliver open source, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) and connected vehicle software. What does that mean for vehicle developers? They don’t have to go back and re-invent the wheel each time they design vehicle software. Instead, they can turn to a proven, documented, open repository of team-developed software and APIs.

After attending our first All Member Meeting and Open Community Days in Seoul, South Korea (October 10-12), I’ve got to say that it’s thrilling to be a part of a community with such a clear focus on automotive software innovation. I was inspired by the dedication and passion of the engineers who give their time and know-how to solve some incredibly difficult problems.

Presentations at the GENIVI Open Community Days covered topics ranging from automotive security and connectivity to future trends, autonomous driving and artificial intelligence. Altia partners and customers were heavily involved in sharing their progress, discoveries and vision. The event was kicked off by keynote presentations from Mr. Dong Il Park, Senior VP of the Vehicle IT Development Center at Hyundai Motor, and Dr. Jin-Yong Kim, Executive Vice President at LG Electronics. (In fact, one of the conceptual vehicle displays shown in Dr. Kim’s keynote was on display at Altia’s exhibit table Wednesday night!) Mr. Masayasu Yoshida, Department Manager of Automotive Information at Renesas presented “Automotive Silicon Supporting Cross-domain Interaction Will Require Robust Scalability, Security, and Integrated Safety While Opening New Business Opportunities to Deliver Better Cars”, a talk on the opportunities of SoC consolidation – one pillar of the new domain interaction strategy of GENIVI.  Furthermore, GENIVI board members from Bosch, Mentor and PSA participated in a panel discussion entitled “Is IVI Done?” It was fascinating and thought-provoking – with a long Q&A session about how IVI might change once we’re all time-sharing cars.

Delegates from top OEMs and Tier 1s plus many others were present to join in these important discussions. Additionally, Altia and other GENIVI members were invited to showcase our automotive software technologies at a GENIVI Member Showcase and Reception on the evening of Wednesday, October 11.

The Altia team looks forward to upcoming GENIVI events, including AutoMobility LA at the Los Angeles Convention Center on November 27-30 and the GENIVI Reception Event at Bellagio Hotel during CES 2018.
