Altia headquarters’ hometown, Colorado Springs, has been named #6 in the US News and World Report Top Places to Live. This is a terrific opportunity to reflect upon all the reasons why we love our home, sweet home. We captured the highlights here.

A Gorgeous Place to Live

Colorado Springs is located at the foot of Pikes Peak—and our purple mountain majesty is a glorious backdrop that changes every day. The city is surrounded by national forest, open space, wildlife reserves and birding trails, so if you’re a nature lover, Colorado Springs will definitely deliver!

The summers are perfect—average temperatures between 50°F- 84°F— and winters offer snow-worthy temperatures that fuel the locals’ passion for skiing, between 17°F and 45°F, with a typical annual snowfall average of nearly five feet of snow fall. The altitude and nearness to the mountains keeps Colorado Springs’ weather temperate year-round, but we still get to experience all four seasons and around 300 days of sunshine a year!

As home to the Air Force Academy, Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base, NORAD, and Fort Carson Army Post, Colorado Springs is a proud military town — with a thriving community of DoD, military and veteran families.

A Great Place to Grow

The Springs has long been a city on the rise. Our population is expected to overtake Denver within decades. Major projects in recent years have continued to build out the infrastructure and living options between our two cities, with Colorado Springs growing in every direction but west. The laid-back atmosphere of the Springs makes a nice alternative to the fast-paced Denver lifestyle.

Plenty of Places to Work

The work opportunities in Colorado Springs cannot be beat! The unemployment rate within the city stays relatively low (4.3% as of December 2021). Key industries in Colorado Springs include aerospace and defense, healthcare and medtech, IT and cybersecurity, manufacturing and sports. Our area is home to more than 35 Fortune 500 companies, with some of the largest employers being Lockheed Martin, Progressive Insurance, Microchip Technologies, Newmont Mining Corporation and the U.S. Olympic Committee. Area military installations also account for some local employment, including Fort Carson Army Base, Schriever and Peterson Air Force Bases. And, of course, Altia’s world headquarters is located in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs.

Amazing Places to Learn

Colorado Springs is home to an array of colleges and universities, including the United States Air Force Academy, the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak Community College, Colorado College, Colorado Christian University, Colorado Technical University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

While we’re talking about education, we can’t forget about elementary, middle and high school. Colorado Springs is home to great schools—both public and private. Several of The Springs’ schools rank within the top five best schools in their category for the whole state of Colorado. Additionally, Colorado mandates open enrollment within each school district and—if space is available—outside a student’s school district, so families have a bounty of educational options to serve the needs and interests of their children.

Beautiful Places to Play and Explore

You only need to look around you to appreciate the sheer beauty of Colorado Springs—and there are so many places to enjoy nature in our great city. There are tons of mountain biking and hiking trails around the city, as well as over 100 parks including truly picturesque places like Garden of the Gods, Palmer Park and North Cheyenne Cañon. And don’t forget about Pikes Peak!

The Springs offers an array of fun things to see and do—and we’re building new ones all the time! If you’re up for a museum, we’ve got the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, the Pioneers Museum and US Olympic & Paralympic Museum. The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center offers guided tours of the facilities where our US Olympians do their training. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a fun place to check out animals in their Rocky Mountain habitats. For outdoor concerts and Colorado Springs Switchbacks professional soccer, we have the brand new Weidner Field.

Delicious Places to Eat and Drink

Come to Colorado Springs and you won’t be hungry or thirsty! Cooking at home? During the spring, summer and fall, we have farmer’s markets open every day of the week. If you’re looking to eat out, Colorado Springs offers a booming restaurant scene boasting cuisine from all over the world. We’ve got an emerging culinary scene with local chefs who are making our town a home for foodies.

Our city boasts more than 30 breweries, an ever-growing number of distilleries and several unique coffee and tea shops.

Want a night out with your best canine friend? Dogs are welcome at tons of restaurant and brewery patios around Colorado Springs. There’s even a special place called Pub Dog—a restaurant, bar and dog park—where you and your pooch can hang out, eat and then romp around in an off-leash 3,000-square-foot play area.
