Altia Code Generation Target now integrated with Green Hills INTEGRITY RTOS and INTEGRITY Multivisor secure virtualization optimized for use on Intel Apollo Lake Automotive SoC

Altia and Green Hills Software announce the commercial availability of a new code generation target for the Intel Apollo Lake Processor running Green Hills INTEGRITY real-time separation kernel or it’s safe and secure INTEGRITY Multivisor virtualization solution. This new SoC/software combination of technologies has been selected for use by a global automotive OEM for a 1920×1080 virtual instrument cluster program.

Altia’s code generation target was custom-designed for the Intel Apollo Lake Processor, which empowers real-time computing for new in-vehicle experiences. This processor includes four Intel Atom cores running 1.6 GHz with 2 MB L2 cache with up to 8 GB of memory. This horsepower, along with other powerful multimedia features, makes the Intel Apollo Lake an ideal multicore platform for high performance multi-function automotive HMI applications which require outstanding graphics performance.

This Altia code generation target is specifically tuned to run on the Green Hills INTEGRITY real-time separation kernel and INTEGRITY Multivisor. This automotive grade platform was designed so that embedded developers could ensure their applications met the highest possible requirements for security, reliability and performance. The INTEGRITY offerings utilize a memory-partitioning architecture to isolate and protect embedded applications. Secure partitions guarantee each task the resources it needs to run correctly and fully protect the INTEGRITY operating system and native user tasks from errant and malicious code or guest OSs through proven freedom from interference.

“Green Hills is pleased to see availability of formal Intel Apollo Lake SoC support for Altia’s HMI code generation offerings on both its INTEGRITY separation kernel and its INTEGRITY Multivisor secure virtualization, which is based on the INTEGRITY separation kernel,” says Dan Mender, vice president, business development, of Green Hills Software. “With this support, automotive OEMs and Tier 1s can seamlessly use the Altia tool on standalone cluster programs and more complicated center console consolidation programs that incorporate INTEGRITY Multivisor virtualization services.”

This new target for Intel Apollo Lake running Green Hills INTEGRITY was created for use with the Altia tool chain, which includes a Photoshop exporter, GUI editor and graphics code generator for custom embedded displays. Altia Design, the GUI editor, provides the capability to create a completely custom GUI model that leverages both 2D and 3D graphics assets. Altia DeepScreen, the graphics code generator, converts the GUI model created in Altia Design into graphics C code that leverages all the on-chip resources of the Apollo Lake processor. The DeepScreen code generation target for Apollo Lake will include Altia’s new font module technology which will allow developers to design production GUIs that will accommodate many global languages.

“The brute force of the Apollo Lake platform gives Altia’s customers a lot of freedom for creating advanced custom GUIs,” says Mike Juran, Altia CEO. “With built-in support for layers as well as advanced 3D content, we are making it possible for interface designers to get the most out of this high-powered hardware. In addition, support for over 500 languages in this target make it a worldwide platform for embedded displays around the world – with INTEGRITY serving a key role to keep safety critical portions of the interface code separated and secure. The combination of Altia and Green Hills makes it easier than ever for engineers to get the best GUI running safely on Apollo Lake.”
